Moncton, NB–Hundreds turned out at a rally to show support for getting Codiac Transpo buses back on the road.

A rally was held in front of Moncton City Hall yesterday afternoon.

The crowd was made up of both Transpo workers, and bus riders.

Michel Arsenault says the union deserves what they are asking for. “These people have a right to a decent wage to feed their family.  We can’t get around without the bus.  I live at Peoples Park Tower.  It takes an hour to get downtown on foot.  I have a heart condition.”

Another rider, who remained anonymous, says, “I think the people need to put the pressure on and tell City hall this is not acceptable.  We need our drivers and they are damn well worth their money they’re asking for.”

Codiac Transpo buses have been parked since June 27th, when workers Transpo were locked out by the city.  Two days of negotiations between the City and Transpo workers broke down last week, leaving the two sides even further apart.

Workers have been without a collective agreement for two years..
