MUSQUASH – RCMP in St. George are investigating a case of animal cruelty after a dog was found abandoned in a gravel pit in thirty-degree heat.

Police were called to a gravel pit in Musquash Saturday, and discovered an adult male tri-coloured pitbull cross, in a cage without food or water.

The cage had been wired shut and could not be opened easily.

Police believe the animal was left there sometime the night before, and would not have survived long in the extreme heat.

The dog is now under the care of the SPCA Animal Rescue League in Saint John.

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to contact the St. George RCMP at (506) 755-1130 or N.B. Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
