FREDERICTON, N.B. – NB Power says the refurbishment project at the Point Lepreau nuclear plant is continuing despite the strike by Candu Energy workers with a restart still scheduled for the fall.

Close to 800 nuclear scientists and engineers are on strike in a dispute over wages and seniority.

NB Power spokesperson Kathleen Duguay says there are a limited number of those workers at Lepreau. “And NB Power has a contingency plan in place to complete the work. There’s approximately only five workers left that is working on the refurbishment project.”

Duguay says there is no picketing permitted on the Lepreau site and any pickets would have to take place outside the main gates of the facility.
