POINT LEPREAU, N.B. – After a few spills at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Plant, the generating station has received a gold star on it’s safety assessment from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

The national regulator gave the plant a satisfactory rating for its overall performance in a safety assessment.

NB Power says this rating reflects improvement in the area of Emergency Management and Fire Protection and puts the Lepreau plant on par with other Canadian nuclear plants.

The plant remains on track to restart this fall.

Point Lepreau has been out of service since March 2008.
