ANTIGONISH, N.S. – A soldier who has been marching to raise money to help sick and injured soldiers is almost at the end of her long journey.

Corporal Kate MacEachern began marching in full combat gear, minus weapon, on June 4th from CFB Gagetown.

Her goal was Antigonish, Nova Scotia, a march of approximately 570 kilometres.

She will arrive in Antigonish, her hometown, at 5pm today.

MacEachern is raising money for the organization ‘Soldier On,’ which provides programs to help soldiers and former soldiers who have been hurt or are ill.

She says it is an incredible organization.

“They take rehabilitation one step further and make it personal.  They’re just a very caring organization.”

She says almost being finished after weeks of marching an average of 30-plus kilometres a day is surreal.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do when I wake up Saturday morning and automatically go to wrap my feet and put on my boots, and then realize I don’t have to.”

The total amount of what MacEachern’s march has raised is expected later.
