MONCTON, N.B. -  With graduation proms and parties about to kick into high gear, RCMP are reminding young people about the consequences of using drugs and alcohol.

Constable Damien Theriault says teens need to be aware that using alcohol and drugs can make you incapable of making the right decisions and leave you vulnerable to being victimized.

Theriault reminds teens that date rape drugs like GHB and Ketamine are present in New Brunswick and can be slipped into your drink without you even knowing it….

“A lot of incidents are not necessisarily reported because some people don’t actually realized they have been victimized.   they simply wake up after an evening of partying and are not sure exactly what happened.” says Theriault.

Theriault says in order to stay safe, teens should always stick together with friends at a party, never  accept drinks from people they don’t know and never get into a vehicle with someone who’s been drinking or doing drugs.

He also suggests you should never leave your drink unattended and if a friend is acting strangely — get help.
